^  Aims and Objectives of ACARM

The main objectives of ACARM are:

  1. to promote the development of professional archival and records management standards in the Commonwealth
  2. to reinforce the importance which archives and records have in national heritage and development programmes
  3. to promote the development of professional archival and records management education and training throughout the Commonwealth
  4. to permit archivists and records managers who share a common heritage to compare, exchange, share and develop their common experience
  5. to encourage the dissemination of information
  6. to promote an increased awareness of the Commonwealth through the exploitation of archives and records in teaching
  7. to encourage the formation and continued development of professional archival and records management associations in individual countries of the Commonwealth

^  The Executive Committee


The governing body of ACARM is an elected Executive Committee. A general meeting of members is held annually either during the International Conference of the Round Table on Archives (CITRA) or the International Congress on Archives, which is held once every four years.

The Committee consists of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and six other members. The functions of the Executive Committee include the running of the Association, initiating programmes and establishing committees and working groups.

^  The Secretariat

The ACARM Secretariat was established in 1988 and is currently based at the International Records Management Trust in London. The Secretariat:
  • serves as a support base for members
  • acts as an information networking centre
  • provides a channel for advice on specific needs and problems to archival institutions assists in co-ordinating and organising ACARM's records management workshop programme
